SOFTWARE SUPPORT

You will be responsible for problem tracking, diagnosis, replication, troubleshooting, and resolution of sometimes complicated and critical issues, providing excellent customer service leading to satisfactory resolution in these areas:

Tech Log Resolution: Respond to, research and resolve complex issues across the product line, with a high level of client service and strong follow-through on commitments.

Knowledge Management: Develop and remain current across the product line; create and lead training sessions; and identify areas to apply knowledge to the business.

Daily Operations: Participate in projects that enhance the quality or efficiency of support, assist with system and release testing, and review technical documentation.

Qualifications:

  • B.A./B.S. in a technical field or equivalent experience
  • At least 3 years relevant software support experience, including 3rd level software support
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision making skills
  • Experience working with relational databases (preferably MSSQL 2000+)
  • Experience filtering and updating complex technical knowledge to resolve problems
  • Excellent track record in outstanding customer service
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-starter/self-motivated
  • Ability to set an example of integrity, ethical behavior and professionalism for others to follow
  • GIS knowledge, training experience, project management, and strong MSSQL skills (including writing queries and stored procedures) are definite assets

SOFTWARE TESTER

Responsible for ensuring that each product in a release cycle is thoroughly tested, including software documentation, configuration, performance, and upgrade and install processes. Specific duties include:

  • Prepares test plans and test cases, and logs work into internal tracking system
  • Prepares defect reports; monitors for issue verification and reporting to web site
  • Collects Defect Matrices
  • Tests applications in client/server environments, performs testing on all combinations of platforms and databases
  • Conducts functional tests of the application and reports on the results
  • Participates in project meetings and retrospectives
  • Performs optimization and improvement for testing standards and procedures
  • Identifies repetitive testing processes and builds automated testing procedures (i.e. database scripts or programming scripts) wherever possible; some load testing may also be included
  • Sets up and configures testing environment to support various test scenarios
  • Keeps up-to-date with new industry methods and technologies to streamline quality assurance testing and improve department productivity
  • Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Computer Science is preferred
  • 3+ years software quality testing
  • Solid understanding of Software Lifecycle and structured testing processes
  • Knowledge of database structure and queries (SQL): SQL programming an asset
  • Knowledge of GUI usability testing techniques
  • Familiarity with automation and performance testing
  • Strong oral and written communication and documentation skills
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies
  • Ability to work on concurrent projects
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

TECHNICAL WRITER

As part of our Operations team, you will work closely with FDM’s technical architects, using agile methodology to produce technical references, developer and end-user guides, tutorials with code samples, and other documentation for an audience of developers, administrators and end users (both internal and external), including:

  • Own developer-oriented documentation (print and online formats) from planning to delivery
  • Collaborate with system architects, internal developers, and external clients to create a comprehensive set of documentation that supports the core business logic in FDM’s products
  • Participate in FDM’s iterative software development life cycle, including daily meetings, weekly and quarterly retrospectives, and periodic product reviews; contribute to online product development forums
  • Assist with development and maintenance of user- and administrator-oriented documentation

Qualifications:

  • Technical Communications certificate/diploma; or degree in English or Communications-related field, with proven technical background; or degree in Computer Science or related field with a strong writing background
  • 3-5 years technical writing experience in software; experience documenting APIs, SDKs, IDEs or development frameworks a definite benefit
  • Proven ability to conceive, research, organize, write, and deliver documentation projects from start to finish
  • Passion for technology and contributing to software development efforts
  • Strong writing skills, ability to accurately assess audience needs, and desire to support FDM’s products with useful, effective documentation that directly impacts the technical user’s product experience
  • Ability to absorb technical information quickly, research independently, effectively interview subject matter experts, and to analyze, synthesize, and convey this information and concepts in plain language
  • Solid understanding and experience with a high-level programming language
  • Understanding of database design
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail, with demonstrated ability to prioritize work, manage competing priorities, and adapt to unexpected changes
  • Knowledge of automated documentation generation tools
  • Familiarity with usability and human interaction principles in documentation and software design
